          Although distinctly Japanese in style, the Hakushu 12 is quite different from its more famous sibling, the Yamazaki 12 (different distillery, same ownership). Hakushu is richer and more robust with notes of orchard fruits, ripe melon and a soft smokiness.

          Mixed results
